Zima is a town in and the administrative center of Ziminsky District of
Irkutsk Oblast, Russia, situated on the intersection of the Trans-Siberian
railway with the Oka River. Population: 34,899.The village Staraya Zima on
the place of the town was established in 1743. In 1898, the Trans-Siberian
railway went to the village and the railroad station Zima was established. In
1917 (or, according to other sources, in 1922), the village was granted town
status. The town is best known as the birthplace of Yevgeny Yevtushenko, a
